A Familiar Place
AN ARTIST RESIDENCY AT THE UWC-USA
2019 - 2020
I was an artist in residence at the United World College of the American West from September 2019 - February 2020. I grew up in the area and spent the residency connecting with past locations and well as familiar drawing patterns in the form of repetitive doodles. I began doodling abstract shapes that took form as mounds of detritus in a landscape. The repetitive patterns and shapes gave me the same comfort as being in a familiar place.
What resulted was a circular based structure of pieces of overlapping fabrics. I had originally planned to install the piece in an unused pool room, that offered a large airy space for my installation. Unfortunately installment was cut short due to COVID lockdowns. I ended up finding an outdoor space that worked well.
